Wikipedia Has an excellent introduction to all things cover song related.

There are lots of great cover songs sites on the web. If you want to look up a song to see who did the original and who has covered it Second Hand Songs has a huge database of information.

The Covers Project also does a nice job of this, although their database appears to be smaller.

Cover vs The Original is a fun site where you can vote on if you prefer the original or the cover version of a song. The only problem is you can't listen to songs directly from the site.

In term of places other than Radio Free Fernie to listen to cover songs on line:

One of the pioneers of podcasts and cover songs is the Coverville podcast by Brian Ibbott. Brian has been doing this for years and has over 700 podcast to his credit. His shows are highly thematically and have won countless awards.

As for other cover songs radio stations they include:

Radio conglomerate Soma FM is experimenting with a new cover station Cover Me Radio. Soma has an excellent pedigree in internet radio and has two of my favorite radio stations in their line-up: Secret Agent Radio  for downtempo lounge, and DroneZone for the ambient lover in you (bring your headphones).

Just for fun you have to give the Chettstream a listen. Chett's cover collection is nothing if not large and eclectic.

Also DJ Teaser focuses on the harder side of covers at Tribute Radio found here or in both shoutcast and iTunes directories.
